St. Peter Cathedral School is a Catholic Elementary School located in the heart
of inner city Wilmington. Administered by the Daughters of Charity for 180 years, the school's rich history dates
back to Mother Seton. The dedicated staff believes that education is a ministry rooted in the Gospel and recognizes the uniqueness
of each child as well as the value of his or her cultural, social, and religious background. The faculty strives to
meet the needs of each student within a curriculum that promotes spiritual, academic, emotional, and physical growth. Students
learn in an environment where they develop a sense of individual responsibility, and they grow in a caring, Christian atmosphere
that fosters mutual respect.
A variety of approaches that
are both structured and flexible challenge students as they progress through each grade level. Realistic goals and high
expecations encourage the growth of a community of learners who meet academic success by mastering basic skills, cultivating
intellectual curiosity, and exploring creative outlets. A supportive and caring atmosphere enriched with opportunities
for cooperative learning and individual expression enhances self-esteem and encourages students to reach the fullness of their
potential.
The professional staff creates an atmosphere that
is student-centered and based on Gospel values. Each teacher works in partnership with all faculty members, parents,
guardians, and the larger community in empowering the students for their future roles in a changing and challenging society.
Believing that the individual needs and differences of students are always a reflection of God's love, the faculty is
both inspired and challenged by their ministry as teachers.
The philosophy of St. Peter Cathedral School is the cornerstone of its mission and a reflection
of the faith and hope that are the heart and spirit of St. Peter's.
